Tonight, the United States Men’s National Team kick off “The Hex” against longtime foes, Mexico. With the World Cup in Russia less than two years away, it is important for both sides to start out on the right foot and record three points.
The USMNT will look to win their fifth straight World Cup Qualifying match at MAPFRE Stadium, which has seen a result of ‘Dos a Cero’ for the Stars and Stripes over El Tri in each of their past four meetings. Mexico holds the all-time series lead of 34-18-14 (W-L-D), but the United States has been more successful in recent bouts, having gone 13-6-5 since the 2000.
Last time these countries met was in the CONCACAF Cup a little over a year ago which saw Mexico take the 3-2 win in extra time and clinch a spot in the 2017 Confederations Cup.
Earlier this week, Tim Howard, fresh off an MLS Cup semifinal win for the Colorado Rapids, was named the starting goalkeeper for the United States.
