Sacramento Republic FC may be the hottest team in the USL Championship, and they’ll put their five-game winning streak to the test when they host Orange County SC Wednesday evening at Papa Murphy’s Park.
Sac Republic have had a week off since their last game, a dramatic 2-1 win over Portland Timbers 2, in which all the goals came after the 86th minute, and SRFC won it on the final kick of the game courtesy of Julian Chavez. The goal was a beauty, too, not just a fluke against a winless team on the season.
Even so, Republic FC have their work cut out for them in taking on OCSC, who are in the running to earn a playoff spot in their group, and their group is in reality much harder than Sacramento’s. There have a been a few hiccups of late for Braeden Cloutier’s squad, but make no mistake — they are a contender for the Western Conference this year, too.
So this will be a very good litmus test for both teams. Sacramento will have homefield advantage plus a week between games, while Orange County will be on short rest and have a very long bus trip. Will that tip the balance? We’ll find out what happens in a hotly-anticipated clash.
Our partners at DraftKings Sportsbook didn’t have lines out for this game when this post was written. Take this with a grain of salt as I am a total betting novice, but I’d guess the line will be pretty tight for this one, a slight edge to Sacramento as the home side.
