One more name to add to the Sacramento Republic FC preseason roster, as head coach Mark Briggs revealed to an eagle eyed fan watching one of the team’s preseason videos from this week that academy player Julian Chavez is involved in camp.
Like most academy players, Chavez is probably there to help make up the numbers and to get some time with the senior team, for the coaching staff to measure his progress and potential. Don’t expect an imminent signing, but it could be possible in the future. Good luck to Julian and the other youngsters in training this preseason.

- Switchbacks sign Mexican youth international: Uvaldo Luna is a Texas-born former Mexico youth international who has experience playing in Liga MX and the Colombian first division, and now he’s a Colorado Springs Switchbacks player. Should be an interesting signing, looks like the Switchbacks are stockpiling some talent under new coach Alan Koch.
- USWNT open Olympic qualifying with win: Concacaf Olympic qualifying began Tuesday on the women’s side, with the U.S. Women’s National Team beating Haiti 4-0. It was both a sloppy win and totally comprehensive from the World Cup champs, and Haiti were hard done by an incorrect call on an olimpico goal early on. But it’s Vlatko Andonovski’s first competitive win for the USWNT, and onto the next game in the tourney.
