Yesterday we introduced you to one of many new weekly features, The Weekly Blurb. Today we will be introducing you to another one: SRFC QUESTION OF THE WEEK.
How it works is as follows. We will ask a relevant question (in most cases) having to do with SRFC. Our job, and there will be more answers as our team grows, is to provide an intelligent response (which might be debatable). Your job will be to give your response in the comment section. We don’t want your thoughts on our answers. We don’t care if you agree or disagree with what we or anyone else has to say. Just give us your answers, judgement-free. Can you handle that? We think we are going to love reading some of your responses and are really looking forward to them. Enough of me. Here’s the question.
How do you see the home and home series against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC playing out?
Josh - @josh_beeman -
There’s no telling exactly how the matches will turn out, but Sacramento certainly have a better chance of getting all 6 points now than they did prior to the July friendlies. Before Buckle took over, the Republic seemed a bit stagnant. If the result against S2 is anything to go by, that is no longer the case.
Colorado Springs will be coming to Bonney Field to face a reinvigorated and confident Sacramento Republic. You can ask any USL team who was around in 2014 how that situation generally turns out for the visitors.
The big issue, then, is the game in Colorado Springs, where the Switchbacks have been very good. The altitude gives them an extra element of home field advantage and will likely be one of the more challenging places to play for Sacramento this season.
All in all, I like the chances for the Republic to get at least 4 points out of this home and home series. But it will not be an easy feat, as Colorado Springs are a good team.

If Colorado Springs hoped to bounce back from a humbling shutout defeat at home to Tulsa, they must have groaned when they looked at the schedule afterward. They will travel to Bonney Field Saturday, the loudest, most fearsome fortress in the western conference, to face new-attitude Sacramento Republic.
Sacramento returned to league play last weekend, after a long hiatus during which they learned their roles under new head coach Paul Buckle. Apparently, every player’s role is, in a word, win. The Republic put together a complete performance in shutting out first-placed Seattle, with target man Thommy Stewart providing the swagger and the offense up top that has been less than consistent in the River City this season.
If Sacramento brings the same thing on Saturday, I don’t see the Switchbacks being able to cope. They may regroup and steal a point at home in the Springs on Friday, but that’s all.
This week we have a special guest giving us his two cents: none other than the USL King himself, Chad Hollingsworth, Original Editor of Reckless Challenge and now the man at Scratching the Pitch.
SAC looked as dominant as ever last time out in Buckle’s first USL match. RoRo and friends will ride that momentum and put on a show in front of the home crowd. The next match will be in the thin air of Colorado, where the Switchbacks have been dominant. Veterans Vercollone and Harada will step up and guide the expansion club to victory.
Now it’s your turn. Leave your answer on the comment section. Do it. Don’t be shy. You’ll feel good about yourself.
I would be happy with 4 points over these next two games. A win at home and a draw in Colorado. Given Colorado’s home success, I think it will be a fight for us to leave with three points. I don’t know if it was the altitude but the away games the Republic have played against the Real Monarchs, have not ended well. Only one point in two games. These are the same bottom of the table Real Monarchs. The draw came on their third away game in less than a week, so I’m sure that had something to do with it. Preki did feel the guys were tired and “lost their legs” in the second half, the altitude being a contributing factor. Hopefully it won’t factor in too much next Friday and they’ll leave with at least a point. Although, three would be much better.

I had some free time on Wednesday night and I knew we had the 2 matches coming up against CoS so I watched them play Tulsa. CoS maintained the bulk of the posession and most of their chances were on crosses and set pieces. Much like SRFC they struggled to put shots on target in this particular match, Tulsa’s goalie also made some key saves. If Daly and Vukovic hold their own and we continue to attack with thru balls instead of crosses then I think we have a good chance of taking 6 points.
