It’s been a busy start to 2017 for the Indomitable Club.
On Tuesday, the Republic FC announced the signing of veteran midfielder Adam Moffat from the NASL’s New York Cosmos. Later that same day, the club made many fans happy by announcing that Jeremy Hall would be returning for the 2017 season as a Republic player.
A day later, the Quails made a power play—the type you usually see Bayern Munich do— by signing Orange County Blues FC forward Trevin Caesar, strengthening its front line and weakening a direct conference rival in one fell swoop. The Trinidad & Tobado international arrives in Sacramento as the Blues’ leading scorer the past two seasons. His 10 goals last season were over 25% of the Southern Californian club’s output in 2016.
Caesar’s signings increased speculation that Cameron Iwasa would not be returning next season and the Sacramento native seemed to confirm these rumors with an apparent goodbye to the club and its fans on Instagram.
With these signings, Republic’s current roster for the 2017 season stands as follows:
Forwards:
Wilson Kneeshaw, Harry Williams, Trevin Caesar, Christian Chaney, Tyler Blackwood, Gabe Gissie, Lamin Suma
Midfielders:
Danny Barrera, Augustin Cazarez, Daniel Trickett-Smith, Adam Moffat, Jeremy Hall*
Defenders:
Mike da Fonte, Carlos Rodriguez, Emrah Klimenta, Elliott Hord, Peter McGlynn, Enrique Montano
Goalkeepers:
Dominik Jakubek, Evan Newton
*Hall is listed as a defender on Republic’s website, but was mainly used as a midfielder during his loan with the club in 2016.
Still no word on whether certain stalwarts from last season, such as James Kiffe and Chris Christian, will be back on the roster this year. However, you may be able to get Head Coach Paul Buckle to tell you if you ask him in time for Thursday’s planned Reddit AMA.
