USL Western Conference - Best XI Week 4

This week’s Best XI is dominated by the Texas twosome of San Antonio and Rio Grande Valley.

Once more it is time to jump into the team of the week based on information pulled from Opta. In the wake of a 4-0 blowout by San Antonio this week, they dominated the rankings, but who else had a performance that gained them a spot?

The Players

Goalkeeper: Matt Cardone – San Antonio FC, 2800 pts

Cardone helped lead San Antonio to their fourth straight game undefeated with a shut out over Reno.

Defender: Sebastian Ibeagha – San Antonio FC, 3571 pts

Ibeagha helped preserve a shutout victory and notched an assist as San Antonio blanked Reno.

Defender: Greg Cochrane – San Antonio FC, 3405 pts

Cochrane earned his first assist of the season and helped with the third shutout of the year for San Antonio.

Defender: Amer Didic – Swope Park Rangers, 2880 pts

Didic provided multiple clearances as Swope Park withstood a late push by Sacramento to keep the shutout.

Defender: Nouhou Tolo – Seattle Sounders 2, 2815 pts

Tolo scored for Seattle as they earned their second win of the season.

Midfielder: Billy Forbes – San Antonio FC, 3279 pts

Forbes scored and recorded an assist as San Antonio continued their early season unbeaten run.

Midfielder: Eric Bird – Rio Grande Valley Toros, 2770 pts

Through multiple created chances, Bird helped the Toros take down Colorado Springs as they continue to creep up the table.

Midfielder: Miguel Gonzalez – Oklahoma City Energy, 2561 pts

Gonzalez scored the difference maker in a 1-0 victory over Sacramento and found himself atop the SportsCenter Top 10.

Forward: Cesar Elizondo – San Antonio FC, 3822 pts – Player of the Week

Elizondo notched a brace on his way to leading San Antonio to a third victory in four games.

Forward: Memo Rodriguez – Rio Grande Valley Toros, 3402 pts

Rodriguez had himself a brace in RGV’s second win in a row.

Forward: Camilo Monroy – Rio Grande Valley Toros, 2757 pts

Monroy had a late goal to seal the 3-1 victory for the Toros over the Switchbacks.

Goalkeeper: Andrew Dykstra – Swope Park Rangers, 2710 pts

Defender: Stephen McCarthy – San Antonio FC, 2431 pts

Midfielder: Mastanabal Kacher – Colorado Springs Switchbacks, 2401 pts

Forward: Mark Gonzalez – Swope Park Rangers, 2214 pts

Final thoughts:

The Week Four Team of the Week was dominated by the Texas two-some of San Antonio FC and Rio Grande Valley Toros, with 73% of the list coming from those two teams.
