The United Soccer League (USL) announced this afternoon that Sacramento Republic FC midfielder Jure Matjašič had earned the USL Fans’ Choice Goal of the Week for his clever strike last Wednesday against Swope Park Rangers. His goal in the 76th minute (after being subbed on just 11 minutes earlier) extended the Republic’s lead to 3-1 and effectively put the match away.
And what a beauty it was right? Elliott Hord once again delivered an exceptional ball in the box that Matjašič was able run onto and flick in. Swope Park Rangers keeper Adrian Zendejas had zero chance to defend.

It was Matjašič’s second straight match with a goal. The first year player has been steady all season for Republic FC Manager Simon Elliott, whether as a starter or as a sub. Hopefully he can continue his trend of scoring and setting up other players throughout the playoffs.
Republic FC return to action this Saturday in the regular season finale when they host Las Vegas Lights FC. The match is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30pm.
It’s another important one in the Western Conference. A Republic win, coupled with a Phoenix Rising FC tie or loss, would move Republic into second place in the table, which would mean they could theoretically host two home playoff matches.
All eyes will be on this match Saturday night, as well as Phoenix’s home match versus Portland Timbers 2.
