Yesterday, Sacramento Republic FC U-19s faced off against Richmond United in the first match of the 12th Annual U.S. Soccer Development Academy Winter Showcase in Lakewood Ranch Florida (November 29-December 3). Republic FC also sent their U-17 team as well.

Republic first team midfielder Robert Hategan converted a penalty in the 14th minute. The celebration that followed is something we can only hope we see out Hategan at Papa Murphy’s Park in the near future. Check it out for yourself if you haven’t seen it.

Hategan would add another goal in the 78th minute and reprise his celebration. First team forward Mario Penagos also added a goal in the 88th minute for the baby Quails.

The U-19s play again this afternoon against Michigan Wolves. Their final match will come Sunday when they square off against Sporting Kansas City U-19s.

The Winter Showcase provides three competitive games to every team against opposition that they wouldn’t normally face during week-to-week divisional play. Games are hand-selected based on a variety of factors to ensure the most meaningful competition.

The results count towards the overall regular season standings as part of a 10-month season that culminates with the Academy Championships next July.

What do you think of Hategan’s celebration?
