Congratulations to former Sacramento Republic FC standout Emrah Klimenta who made his MLS debut and first start for LA Galaxy yesterday afternoon at right back on the road in Montreal. Signed to the Republic in 2014 after earning a contract during an open tryout, Klimenta is the Republic’s all-time leader in minutes, appearances, starts, and was unquestionably a fan favorite.

While the results from his debut were less than stellar (by his own account and on Twitter), it’s understandable that he wasn’t at his best given the magnitude of the day. Irrespective of the performance, he’s got to feel good about getting the first match under his belt. You can feel that relief in the tweet he put out following the match.

As expected, congratulatory remarks flooded social media from Republic fans, players and family. We too at Indomitable City Soccer share in that joy and hope this is the first of many starts and appearances for old number 23. On that note. Will he get another shot soon?

In reading through some comments, Klimenta was one of three preseason standouts for the Galaxy. Purely speculation here given what I’ve read, but perhaps the right back position is up for grabs given injuries and lack of performance? Galaxy has given up the fifth most goals (19) in the Western Conference. We’ll have to see.
