Even though Sacramento Republic FC were eliminated from the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup competition last night by Los Angeles FC, against any measure, it was another successful Open Cup run by the Quails. Not only was it their second-consecutive appearance in the Round of 16 (the only USL club that can claim that), they looked good in getting there.
There were several standout players from last night. Who earns your vote for Man of the Match?
- Josh Cohen: I mean, where to start Cohen. The guy has been saving the Republic’s bacon all year, and last night was really no different despite giving up three.
- Elliott Hord: It’s so great to see Hord back playing and healthy. What a road it’s been for him. Seeing Hord net that first goal last night in the style he did was awesome.
- Villyan Bijev: LAFC equalize early in the second half, and Bijev is like...“I got it guys”....and quickly gets the lead back for the Republic on what was an absolute rocket.
- Sacramento: Once again, Sacramento shined on the big stage and demonstrated that they belong. LAFC had to give it their all to advance. Surely MLS took notice.
