Two Sacramento Republic FC alumni where in the news yesterday.
The Charlotte Independence announced that long-time Republic FC defender James Kiffe, who had been with Reno 1868 this season (but didn’t log a minute of play), was signed by the Independence for the remainder of the 2018 season.

Upon signing Kiffe, the club released the following statement:
“He’s a very experienced defender,” said Independence Head Coach Mike Jeffries. “He’s a guy that has big-game experience, as we head into the stretch run. He’s been an All-League defender previously, so it’s a good opportunity for us to bring in a guy with experience at this point in the season.”
Kiffe was arguably the Republic’s most valuable player in 2017, making 34 appearances (34 starts), logging 3090 minutes and earning All-League Second Team honors. With Charlotte well out of the playoff hunt, it’s an interesting move, but regardless, it will be good to see Kiffe get some run over the last month or so of the season.
Across the country back in Sacramento, the Republic announced that former midfielder Rodrigo Lopez will be attending the club’s match on Saturday, September 8 in support of the club’s fifth anniversary (#5YearsofGlory).
Lopez will participate in a pre-match meet-and-greet with season ticket holders from 6-6:45pm, and a Q & A session with fans from 6:45-7:15pm. For those not aware, Lopez currently plays for Celaya FC in the Ascenso MX (second division in Mexico).
And while we’re talking about Roro, we would be remiss if we didn’t relive the match highlights from the Miracle at Bonney. That third goal just outside the box never gets old.
