The United Soccer League (USL) announced today that Sacramento Republic FC forward Christian Eissele was named to the USL Team of the Week.

Eissele was recognized for his two-goal performance last Saturday in a 3-0 victory over Seattle Sounders 2. He came on in the 34th minute after Adam Moffat had to leave the match with an injury.

In the 58th minute, Eissele would make his mark after Villyan Bijev brought the ball up the left side and sent in a beautiful cross that Eissele easily slotted home to extend the Republic’s lead to 2-0. He would get his second goal of the match just five minutes later (63rd minute) on a penalty kick after being taken down in the box.

Though Eissele has been used somewhat sparingly of late by Manager Simon Elliott (mostly as a late substitute), he has proven to be effective when does get minutes. With his two goal performance on Saturday, Eissele is now second on the club with five goals behind Cameron Iwasa who has 12.

Eissele has appeared in 20 matches, made 10 starts and logged 913 minutes. Will he get more run over this last month given Saturday’s performance? I certainly hope so because I think he’s a dynamic player and good things seem to happen when he’s out there. Plus, it’s no secret that the Republic could use another consistent goal scorer outside of Iwasa.

What do you think of his performance on Saturday? Do you think Elliott should play him more down the stretch? Sound off in the comments section below!
