Sacramento Republic FC returned home Saturday night and welcomed the Portland Timbers 2 into town following a two-match road trip that took them through Tulsa and Oklahoma City. The match was critical for both teams with just a handful of matches to play and given the fact that they were separated by a single point in the Western Conference table.
Manager Simon Elliott would roll out the following starting XI:

In front of a sold out Papa Murphy’s Park, Republic FC came out on the front foot, which immediately paid dividends in the sixth minute. Keven Alemán would play the ball forward to Elliot Hord who quickly moved the ball up on the right flank and put in a beautiful cross that Cameron Iwasa headed in with force to give the Quails a quick 1-0 advantage.
It was Iwasa’s team-leading 15th goal on the season and Hord’s second assist.

In the 74th minute, Timbers 2 Nathan Smith was sent off after picking up his second yellow card of the match following a late challenge on Mitchell Taintor. The Republic would play a man up for the remainder of the match.
