Sacramento Republic FC announced earlier today that it had signed polish midfielder Dariusz Formella to a USL Championship contract for the remainder of the 2019 season with a club option for the 2020 season pending league and federation approval.
“Dariusz is a dynamic, offensive player that will bolster our attack right away,” said Republic FC General Manager Todd Dunivant in a press release provided by the club. “He brings several years of high-level European experience to our team and we look forward to his arrival in Sacramento.”
At only 23 years-old, Formella has quite the list of accomplishments and experience. Most recently, he played in Poland’s first division, winning a league title and two Polish SuperCups with Lech Poznan, as well as the Polish Cup with Arka Gdynia.
He also has experience playing in the UEFA Europa League and in UEFA Champions League Qualifiers, recording 10 appearances between the two competitions with Lech Poznan, and he represented Poland on the U21 Men’s National Team.
Formella’s arrival in Sacramento is a welcomed sight given the club’s struggle to score goals this season. They currently rank 24th in the league in goals (25), 20th in shots (229) and 21st in shot conversion rate (14 percent). Obviously, this will need to improve moving forward if the club wants to make a run up the Western Conference table.
