After a report dropped Thursday that Sacramento Republic would be parting ways with midfielder Rodrigo Lopez, came confirmation from the player on Friday.
Evan Ream reported that Republic FC would opt not to bring back Lopez for the 2021 season on Thursday, and Lopez confirmed the news Friday on his social media channel.

Lopez sounds as though he was caught off guard and not wanting to leave the team this season, with statements such as “Been hard to process for my family and myself.”
It also sounds as though the 33-year-old wants to continue playing, with his “I’M NOT DONE” statement in all caps in the message.
Across two stints with Sacramento, Lopez has undoubtedly etched his name in Republic FC lore, and his role in landing the club their first championship in their inaugural season in 2014 will not be forgotten. It will be interesting to see what’s next for RoRo and what other moves the club will be making, and we’ll have more for you as we learn it.
