Sacramento Republic FC announced Thursday they have re-signed forward Dariusz Formella for the 2021 season.
Formella was the team’s leading scorer in 2020, notching eight goals in 15 appearances, by far the most goals on the roster during the campaign. The Polish attacker will return for his third season, after originally signing in the summer of 2019.
“Darek’s offensive versatility and his overall quality were just two of the many reasons why we’re so excited to bring him back,” Republic FC general manager Todd Dunivant said in a team statement. “We can’t wait to see what Darek can do with a full season to work with in 2021.”
The 25-year-old previously played in his native Poland for four different clubs, most notably Lech Poznan, with which he won a league title and two domestic cups.
I think this move was expected and not to put too fine a point on it, but likely needed with Formella carrying most of the load in terms of goals this year. Mark Briggs has been high on the player, and I think everyone’s hoping he’ll only continue to get better from here.
