Let’s remember Sacramento Republic’s playoff rally over New Mexico United for coronavirus relief

You just need to post a rally cap photo and tag it.

Let’s look back on a recent Sacramento Republic FC rally for a good cause.

Republic FC jumped into the 2019 USL Championship playoffs with a play-in meeting against New Mexico United last October. In some ways, New Mexico, an expansion team last year, were aiming to be the next SRFC, with huge crowds at games, a deep run in the U.S. Open Cup, and buzz they could win it all.

Following kickoff at Papa Murphy’s Park, disaster struck for Sacramento, as Devon Sandoval scored in the opening minute. Would Republic FC go one game and done in the postseason, to an upstart expansion team?

They found a lifeline in first-half stoppage time, as Keven Aleman scored the equalizer. Then, Thomas Enevoldsen found the winner in the final 10 minutes.

So now I’ve reminded you of the win, what’s the good cause? Glad you asked.

Our partner, DraftKings, is teaming up with the United Way to raise up to $1 million for coronavirus relief.

What do you need to do? For every person who shares their rally cap (hat turned inside out and put back on) on social media with the #DKRally hashtag, DraftKings will donate $1 to the United Way’s coronavirus relief efforts until we reach a $1 million goal. The money will help United Way across a range of needs from food banks to medical services to unemployment support.

The campaign will run through April 7.
