Sacramento Republic FC announced midfielder Andrew Wheeler-Omiunu will be a contestant on Thursday’s episode of “MLS Idle,” a remote talent show the league is hosting during the coronavirus shutdown.
The club’s release indicated Wheeler-Omiunu will share “his passion for music” on the show, so that clearly means he will sing and maybe play the keyboard, too, like we’ve seen him do in recent weeks.
I watched the premiere episode of this show last week, and it’s good! They take three hosts/informal judges, have four players send in videos of a hidden talent, then have the public vote for a winner on social media, with the winner having $1,000 donated for coronavirus in his name by MLS Works. The show was a breezy 30 minutes, I watched it as I ate with my 6-year-old, who got wrapped into the show and watched it all, too.
One of the players Wheeler-Omiunu will go up against has Republic FC and Sacramento roots, as Tommy Thompson is a contestant. TomThom is a big trick shot guy, so I expect it will be in that vein.
Thursday’s episode of “MLS Idle” will stream at 4:30 pm PT on Twitter and Facebook. Fans can vote for Wheeler-Omiunu by posting #MLSIdle and “Wheeler-Omiunu” on Twitter or Facebook from the conclusion of his appearance on the show until Sunday at 11:59 pm ET.
I’d definitely urge you to check it out if you have some time to kill, and hey, it’s all for a good cause.
