Sacramento Republic FC have started weekly play in the USL eCup FIFA20 tournament on the right foot, as they’ve qualified for the weekly final in their mini-league, Division B.

After Justin Sterk, SRFC’s fan representative on the team, won the first match of the week, 3-1 over the Tampa Bay Rowdies, on Wednesday, defender Juan Barahona picked right back up, beating the Charleston Battery 3-2 Thursday. It initially looked like he was going to be overmatched, he struggled in the pre-kick warmup, but he came out to play. While Charleston narrowed the lead twice, Barahona held on for the win.

Up next is the weekly final, against New England Revolution II, Friday at 5:30 pm PT.

Sacramento is playing as Mexico in this international tournament, and they seem to be finding their stride along the way. New England are playing as Russia, who were solid in the last World Cup but certainly seem like a good match for El Tri nonetheless. That’s why they play the (e)games!

As a result of the successful week, Sac Republic will be promoted to Division A next week. The competition is a Nations League-style format, so after promotion, they’ll play next week in the top league, and if they perform well enough, they’ll stay there. If they don’t, they’ll be relegated to Division B again. The higher your level, the more points you get, which will ultimately determine the overall winner in a little over a month’s time.

But for now, Sac Republic have a chance at a mini-trophy on Friday. You can catch the match against New England Friday at 5:30 pm PT, on Sacramento Republic’s Twitch channel.
