Reno 1868 FC announced Wednesday they have had a member of their organization test positive for coronavirus this week. The person is reported by the club to be isolated now and asymptomatic, and Reno’s next game, against Tacoma Defiance, has been postponed.
This news is relevant to Sacramento Republic as they just played Reno, Sunday in Sacramento, with Republic FC coming away 1-0 winners.
A source with knowledge of the situation told Indomitable City Soccer Wednesday in response to the Reno news that Sacramento Republic is observing enhanced health and safety protocols at present as a result of Reno’s positive test, in consultation with both local health authorities and the USL. The source said that as of Wednesday, Sacramento’s game with LA Galaxy II on Saturday in Southern California is still scheduled to proceed.
Obviously, with sports returning while the coronavirus pandemic is still ongoing, there are going to be positive tests, and situations can change quickly, but for now, Reno’s positive test does not appear to have impacted Sac Republic. We’ll keep you posted if that changes.
