Sacramento Republic’s game vs. Tacoma Defiance moved to Sunday

Sacramento Republic and the USL announced the upcoming game between Sacramento and the Tacoma Defiance, originally scheduled for Saturday at Papa Murphy’s Park, has been rescheduled for Sunday at 7:30 p.m. PT at Papa Murphy’s Park.

Tacoma had a positive coronavirus test in their organization and as a result, their midweek game against Reno 1868 FC was pushed back a day to Thursday. And because of a two-game week, they then got permission to push the weekend game at Sacramento so Tacoma would have a normal three-day rest between games.

It’s a bit of an inconvenience from a scheduling perspective, but given some fairly advance warning, it makes sense. Old USL heads will remember when the league would play Friday-Sunday sometimes on road trips to save money. That’s not enough time for players to recover! And since Sacramento will be home, the change is even less significant.

If Sacramento don’t clinch their USL Championship playoff spot from the Reno-Tacoma game on Thursday, they will have the chance to book their ticket in Sunday’s game.
