Sacramento bring in newcomer Chris Gloster to start, and Cameron Iwasa replaces Kharlton Belmar, who’s on international duty.
Oakland run with this XI:
Sacramento Republic FC will attempt to put their two-game slump in the rearview mirror, as they host Oakland Roots at Heart Health Park for the teams’ first meeting in USL Championship play on Wednesday evening.
Republic FC are coming off two straight 1-0 losses, most recently to Phoenix Rising at home at the weekend. They haven’t been playing badly but they just haven’t done quite enough to get results in those games, and will look to this as a fresh opportunity.
But Oakland may not be expansion team pushovers. Obviously they’ve existed for a few years before joining the USL Championship, and their sample size is small so far this season, just two games. But they beat LA Galaxy II last time out, 3-2, with a 90th-minute winner in Carson, so they seem like they will be game for a tough Pacific Division this season. Still, Sacramento will hope they don’t run nearly as tough as Phoenix or Orange County SC before them, but that remains to be seen.
Throw in, too, that this could be a new NorCal rivalry and maybe this one could become a special matchup. Time will tell, but first things first — Sac Republic want all three points on Wednesday.
Our partners at DraftKings Sportsbook as of Wednesday morning have Sacramento at (-167), Oakland at (+440) and a draw at (+230). In other words, the bookmaker has Republic FC pegged as huge favorites for this one. We’ll see!
How to Watch:
Wednesday’s match between Sac Republic and Oakland Roots will be aired on KQCA My58 and Estrella TV Sacramento in the Sacramento viewing area and streamed on ESPN+ in the rest of the United States. The broadcast is scheduled to start at 8 pm PT at Heart Health Park with kickoff to follow.
