Sacramento Republic FC Release Midfielders Zev Taublieb and Gabe Gonzalez

Sacramento Republic FC announced Thursday that they have released midfielders Zev Taublieb and Gabe Gonzalez by mutual consent.

Both Taublieb and Gonzalez came to the Republic during the preseason, first as trialists and then as full fledged members of the team. I caught up with them for Reckless Challenge after their signings were announced back in preseason.

The 22 year old Taublieb was a rookie this season with the Republic and appeared in 13 games with the club, starting 6. He scored his first professional goal in a 3-0 win over Portland Timbers 2. Prior to joining the Republic, Taublieb played for Seattle Sounders U-23s and Valparaiso University.

Gonzalez played in 10 matches for the Republic this season, starting 6. He previously played for the Orange County Blues and the Ventura County Fusion. Interestingly enough, he scored his only goal of 2014 as a member of the Blues against the Republic at Bonney Field.

Taublieb and Gonzalez are the second and third players released from the Republic since new coach Paul Buckle came on board, the first being David Estrada. Estrada has since joined the Orange County Blues.

The USL Roster Freeze deadline for 2015 is September 1st, so any replacement players that the Republic bring in will need to be signed by that date. In order to be eligible for the playoffs, any potential additions would need to have played in 5 matches before the end of the season. ICS has not heard anything so far about additional players coming in.
