Sacramento Republic head to Seattle to take on Sounders in preseason

The first preseason game is nearly here.

MLS: U.S. Open Cup-Seattle Sounders vs Sacramento Republic FC Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Sacramento Republic FC are on the move, as they are in Washington State to take on the Seattle Sounders in their first preseason game Wednesday.

The game is a closed-door affair, but we’ll glean the details we can get from social media and maybe a well-placed source or two.

Here’s more news for this Wednesday:

  • “Uniting El Paso” documentary: El Paso Locomotive joined the USL Championship last year, and at first, they seemed like yet another fledgling pro soccer team. But after tragedy struck the city, the team tried to play a role to bring the community together. This short documentary, produced by the league, is a great look at what is now an indelible chapter in El Paso Locomotive history.
  • Stadium updates: There’s some real news and progress dropping around the Western Conference in stadium situations. New Mexico United are asking for some public funds to build a 15,000 capacity stadium, while Tacoma Defiance are looking for some $22 million to help fund a stadium, presumably for them and Reign FC. Meanwhile, Timbers 2 are moving into a new home in Hillsboro, Oregon, in an existing stadium, and have laid new turf ahead of the season.
  • Reyna scores debut banger: Gio Reyna is just getting started in the pro game, as the 17-year-old son of former USMNT captain Claudio recently made his debut for Borussia Dortmund. On Tuesday, he raised the ante, with an audacious goal, his first as a pro, in the DFB Pokal.

Today’s question: What are you looking to get out of Sac Republic’s first preseason game? It is just preseason, after all, but a good tune-up against a Sounders team about to start Concacaf Champions League. Let’s chat in the comments below!
