Sacramento Republic get in on hand-washing PSAs

When I wash, I wash for Republic.

Bijev is probably thinking about his next handwashing session.

It seems you can’t look anywhere these days without seeing a message to wash your hands.

There’s good reason for that — vigorous handwashing with hot water and soap for at least 20 seconds is one of the precious few ways to combat coronavirus at this point.

But Sacramento Republic FC got in on the handwashing public service announcement bandwagon, with Villyan Bijev showing how it’s done, with a little shimmy action and a familiar tune to those who get out to SRFC games:

You can see what other USL Championship teams are doing in their own handwashing videos on the league website.

More news for Tuesday:

  • Activity kit: The club has put out an activity kit, for kids and the young at heart. We wrote about it on Monday.
  • Tasty Tuesday: Apparently we’re going to learn more about it, but three Republic FC players — Matt Mahoney, Drew Skundrich and Sam Werner — have a cheat day on Tuesdays. Here’s the intro to their weekly holiday.
  • New 916 Republic pod: The guys put out a new podcast late last week, and you know, with no games it’s still a pretty relevant listen if you haven’t gotten around to it.
  • New U.S. Soccer CEO: The USSF announced on Monday they have hired Will Wilson to be their new CEO. He replaces Dan Flynn, who had a heart transplant and then continued to stay on, then told the federation he was leaving, and then they waited months and months to hire someone. This is the latest change there, after Carlos Cordeiro resigned as U.S. Soccer president just last week under considerable public pressure, with Cindy Parlow Cone taking over that position.
  • Name the USL Championship teams: This sporcle quiz is very simple — name all the teams currently in the USL Championship. Try it, let me know how many you got in the comments, and I’ll share my total as well. Let’s chat in the comments!
