The 2020 USL Championship season kicks off Saturday night for Sacramento Republic, as they host FC Tulsa at Papa Murphy’s Park for the first game of the campaign.

With new manager Mark Briggs in charge and a core of returning players bolstered by a handful of experienced newcomers, big things are expected of Republic FC, but as Briggs told us in a recent interview, he’s taking it one game at a time. The aim will be getting three points to start the season over FC Tulsa.

FC Tulsa, formerly the Tulsa Roughnecks, have undergone an offseason rebrand and rebuild, as they aim to return to the playoffs. Head coach Michael Nsien returns this season, but with only one playoff berth in their first five seasons, they’re aiming to set the bar higher and get into the postseason again this year, and I think they’ll likely be a stronger test this season than they’ve often been in recent years.

Neither team has any suspended players for this match.

Will Sacramento start the season with a home win? Will Tulsa put up a fight and take points off them? This should be a great opener, we’ll see how it unfolds.

Tale of the Tape:

Sacramento Republic FC: 0 points (0-0-0), first game of the season

FC Tulsa: 0 points (0-0-0), first game of the season
