Vote: Best Sacramento Republic goalkeeper jersey

(That we could find).

Joe de Ocampo

Continuing jersey week here on SB Nation, we’ve asked you to pick the best jerseys among outfield players in Sacramento Republic’s history, so why not do the same for the goalkeepers?

Ah yes, the goalkeepers, who get a different jersey and usually don’t get much of the limelight in that department. With the enormous caveat that we dug up all the SRFC goalkeeper jerseys we could find, so there may be a version or two missed, let’s go through the looks over the years for the men in the back.

2014-15

The early years for Republic FC were these Lotto kits, which was a simple but unusual design, a two-tone pattern that had a sash across the length of it. This look is the more neutral gray tone.

And this was the more flashy model, a green two-tone.

In 2016, Sacramento switched to Nike, and in came this simple but classic black jersey for the ‘keepers.

2017

And then there was this blue design, with gradient stripes on the sleeves and a solid body on the torso.

I think this black jersey is the same, or nearly so, as the 2016 black version, with just the sponsor name slightly tweaked.

Meanwhile, there was also a bright green number, which came in handy for situations like this one when the opponent wore black.

Two notes on this 2019 design, which is an update over the previous year. First, the detailing in the sleeves is nice, as is the baseball shirt cut. Second, when you’re built like Josh Cohen, the body-hugging nature works pretty well.

I also like this black update, with the sleeve detail being strong in this one, too.

Hard to find the 2020 GK jersey in the wild considering it’s been just one game, but you get a sense from this lineup photo. The color is black, but the pattern is reminiscent of a fingerprint blown up. I like it.
